Let me finish what I started on Instructors Page in CLASSES directory:Summer 2003: developing vertical hierarchy (subdirectories) -- are they "support pages" in nature? Example: script.vtheatre.net got two "class subdirectories" -- script.vtheatre.net/413 (all are index pages) and THR215 Dramatic Literature. I teach THR413 Playscript Analysis in the Fall and made four new subdirectories in "413" subdirectory! Craft, Art, Theory and Writing (four main areas we need to cover during the semester). In the main "script" directory the pages are around playwrights and periods. Topics such as "composition, exposition, plot, story" and etc. are in different place all together (200X Files and Dramlit). So, what do I do with the "Part I. Craft"? Or "Part II. Art"? I have another subdirectory: Themes, which was started for the purpose to discuss individual styles within the continuety of the eternal ideas and questions... This is why I do not teach online. And I do not make more "instructors" pages, since I am the one to ask and answer my questions.
Let trace possible paths:
Character Analysis
"Hamlet" (Shakespeare Pages: Shake Page in main "script" directory and Prince page in shows.vtheatre.net/hamlet -- showcase directory).
[ at what point and how can I let the students to get to themes -- death, generations, gender and so on? And it has to be connected with Part II. Art! ]
The "Theory Pages" (Part II) must be introduced in order to understand what kind of methods do we use for analysis: historical, semiotics, postmodern and etc.
[ from THR215 ]
Hamlet Playwright -- Play (Show) -- Another Writer: horizontal hierarchy? But it has to go through "themes" (vertical) in order for us to compare Shakespeare with Chekhov.
Shakespeare
Hero
Themes[ theory and titles ovelap with THR215 -- Note ]
The tools I use for "redirection": table left (index pages in subdirectories), table right (features), bars (topics at the top, and -- new one "subjects"). Of course, "htmlgears" (organized around the main sites and directories -- film, theatre, directing, classes).
I still have "links" and "list" pages (for references), but Amazon took care of "books recommended" lists (and biblio). The "bottom.txt" files take care of the return to "homepages"... Still have no idea how to make work "next" (end of the content-body). Same with the new segments like "Summary," "Questions," "Notes," "PS," "NB"... Oh, yes -- the popup windows for navigation!
[ to be continued -- read "notes" pages in other directories ]
How to jump from Shakespeare to Chekhov without talking about Moliere and others in between?
Second, "being personal" in their approach to analysis? Chekhov -- Anatoly -- Show...
Should I talk about myself (The Russian Play and/or The Possessed). Moscow Art Theatre -- Chekhov's Moscow Art Theatre. Chekhov's quote on the goals of different writers.
AmDrama: 3 + 3 = (O'Neill - Williams - Miller) + (Albee - Shepard - Mamet) and Kushner and others
